Sleep... it does a LEED AP good.

I'm tired. I've had one of those weeks where many things are going wrong for people you love, but there is nothing you can do except listen and be "there" over the phone. It's been totally stressful. I thought things were back on track until Saturday morning. Saturday I was awakened to the sound of my brother yelling into my answering machine telling me to wake up. You see, I had gone to see Transformers on Friday night and got home really late, and inevitably forgot to unsilence my cell phone. Big mistake. I also hadn't replaced the rechargeable battery that died in the land line phone next to my bed. So, I didn't know that everyone in my family had been trying to contact me for hours. Finally, the sound of a phone ringing began to incorporate itself into my dream and I woke up when I realized it was my brother's voice yelling on the machine. Turns out that my Dad's defibrillator had shocked his heart twice and my Mom called 911. Looooooooooooooooooong story short, but he is doing fine. The defibrillator malfunctioned and he had surgery today to have it replaced. I actually thought I was going to be heading to St. Louis this weekend, buy my parents assured me they were fine.

With all that going on, I had also signed up to take the LEED AP test today. I had been studying for 6+ weeks and felt really good, except that I haven't been able to sleep while worrying about my Dad. Nevertheless I managed to rock the test!!! I am so happy that it's over and that I passed. I just know how much free time I invested and it would've been disappointing to fail (to say the least). So, from now on (or for the next week, whichever comes first), I will be signing everything "-LEED AP".

On my way home from work, I was absolutely drained, but I forced myself to stop at the store to pick up something for dinner. While checking out, I saw THIS fabulous piece of literature. I know what I will be doing tonight. :)

A part of our childhood... gone

I, like everyone else on the planet, was shocked to hear the news about Michael Jackson. I suppose it was somewhat inevitable, I mean with how frail he looked and how his nose kept disappearing into his face. But still. MJ was a part of growing up in the 80s and 90s and it's weird to think that he's gone. He was a staple on MTV back in the day when they actually played music videos. I agree that he made some poor personal choices, but the man could sing and dance. I used to sit in front of our only TV in the basement waiting and waiting for the Thriller video to come on only to get too scared when it finally did!

And, without MJ, we would never have had this!

One actor, two docs

Jennie Garth is one lucky girl.

I'd have to go with Cullen.  Cooper is pretty funny though with his sexual Turets!  Whenever he gets flustered, he touches someone inappropriately.
Aaaanyway, Peter Facinelli recently had a bet with Rob DeFranco that he could get 500,000 followers on Twitter first.  And, well, he won.  So Rob is going to be dancing down Hollywood Blvd next Tuesday in a bikini.

Here's Peter's victory vid.  Do you ever get the urge to lick someone's attractive teeth?  No?  Okay.

Shopping!

After a crazy week*, I was feeling some shopping therapy was due. I generally don't enjoy shopping on my own because I like to have someone with me to critique clothes or whatever it is I'm shopping for. That person is usually my Mom. I LOVE shopping with my Mom! We like the same stores and she doesn't complain if I want to stop in various stores in the mall. When we shop during my St. Louis visits, it is not uncommon for us to hit five Macy's in one day. We'll start out at West County Macy's and if we don't find something in the right color or the right size, we'll head to South County Macy's. Or the Galleria Macy's. Or Chesterfield Macy's. Or... we've been known to even hit Mid-Rivers Macy's. We used to go to Crestwood Macy's before that store closed (sad). It doesn't get old either! Every store is a new adventure.

Today Macy's had a sale and I bought myself a pair of diamond earrings. Now, this generally goes against my philosophy that a girl shouldn't have to buy her own diamonds. I have a couple pairs of diamond earrings and a necklace, all received as gifts. However, after this week, it was either diamonds or heroine. These were cute, small diamond hoops that were on mega-sale. It felt good to do something for me. Then it escalated from there! Shoes are another downfall of mine. I also like bags. I got a new Roxy bag that is super cute and some new Fun Pants at old Navy. They will forever be called Fun Pants thanks to Anne. I also bought some flip flops for the Boys and Girls club for an Old Navy promotion. It always feels good to shop, even for other people.

*You really thought I was going to explain this huh. Not so much.

Everyone Say Cheese

So Facebook, among other sites, is a big time waster. In fact, Conan had a hilarious joke the other night on his "Year 3000" sketch. He said: "In the year 3000, You Tube, Twitter, and Facebook would merge into one huge time-wasting site called YOU TWIT FACE." This couldn't be more true.

Among other things, Facebook has little flash games that you can play against strangers or friends on your list. The lastest time sucking black hole is a game called Farm Town. Think early Sims meets Little House on the Prairie. Your personal avatar is responsible for planting crops that you harvest for coins. You get even more coins if you hire another Facebook minion to harvest for you. With each new level you reach, you can plant more rewarding crops and purchase more exciting animals. (llamas anyone?) Watching crops grow isn't any more exciting than watching paint dry, but there is an inner desire to succeed and move on to the next level of farmdom.

One of the fun aspects of the game is visiting the farms of your friends. Late Saturday night I popped over to Gertie Sue's (aka Happy Fun Pants) and lo and behold, she was hosting a party! Okay, not really, but 2 of her other friends, Monica and Harry Rex, (also friends in real life) had dropped by and we quickly found ourselves having a hilarious conversation courtesy of our cute avatars. We decided to snap a pic of this momentous occasion:

Note to self: Always wear a ponytail with bluetooth.

So today I was in the produce section in the grocery store and noticed a semi-cute guy walk by. I say semi-cute because he had sort of dorky jeans on. Jeans that look like they could've been Osh-Kosh-Bgosh. But anyway, let's get passed that. He walked over to the fresh herbs and was going to town picking out all sorts of things like thyme, parsley, etc., so either this guy was a gourmet chef or totally whipped by his girlfriend who makes him go do her errands.

I had my Mom talking to me on my bluetooth while I was picking out some mixed fruit. Luckily she was in the middle of a long story about the neighbors, so the conversation required little to no input to keep it going. The guy kind of noticed that I was staring at him and oddly following him around the produce displays. I was toying with the idea of saying hi, but how do you chat up someone in the grocery store?

Instead, he walked over to the nectarines, while I converged on the peaches. I decided it looked weird that I wasn't actually buying anything, so I got a plastic bag. Meanwhile, my Mom was asking me questions that I had been ignoring and finally she was thinking I hung up. So I grunted a few times and continued rummaging. When I looked up, the guy was gone. My Mom asked what I was doing and I said I was picking out peaches.

She said "But I didn't think you liked peaches."

I responded (in a louder voice now that the guy was gone) "I know I don't like peaches!!" and turned around.

And there the guy was. Standing by the lettuce, looking at me like I was delusional. Perfect.

I hate dry cleaners. No offense if you are a dry cleaner.

Dry cleaning is such a ripoff.  Well let me rephrase that.  If you are a guy and you prefer to not have to do your own laundry and you wear dress shirts that can be cleaned in less than a day for less than a dollar, then no, dry cleaning is not a rip off.

However, if you are a woman who is perfectly capable of doing your own laundry but prefer to have your work clothes professionally cleaned and pressed by a dry cleaner, then watch out.  Case in point, I dropped off 4 blouses, a sweater, and a pair of dress pants last Friday.  The clerk told me that they wouldn't be ready for pick up until Wednesday.  I was like "Seriously?  Are you that busy that you have to keep my clothes for nearly a week?"  He said the best he could do was Tuesday.  When I showed up on Tuesday, it cost me $36.23 to bail out my clothes and take them home.  And this was after a 25% discount.  Does this seem unfair or what?

I once asked the cleaners why a man's dress shirt cost $0.99, but woman's dress shirt costs $4.99.  He told me that it is because a man's shirt fits on the automatic steam press while the women's shirts do not and have to be pressed by hand.  By some point, shouldn't they have made enough moolah on the extra $4 per shirt that they could buy a woman's shirt press???  I mean seriously.  Maybe there is no such thing as a woman's shirt press.  Maybe that is the key.  Maybe developing a patent for such a machine is my ticket to lifelong wealthy and happiness.  Women all over the world will worship me for the money they save on dry cleaning.  Maybe I should not have posted this.  Maybe you should not be reading this.  This blog will self-destruct in 15 seconds.

If you don't like Rob, then what about these guys

It's not fair that y'all are baggin' on my obsession. It's not often that I find someone that I like who is actually popular and part of the media focus. I usually like more underground or off the wall types who rarely see the light of day let alone get face time on the front of a popular mag!

At long last, the trailer for New Moon was released on the MTV Movie Awards last night. It seemed to be missing something... music maybe? It looks like it should be pretty good, although the CGI wolf could look a *teeny* bit more realistic perhaps? But oh man Jacob! Those 30 lbs of muscles he put on.... um yeah. You'll have to see it.

So Rob may not be your cup of tea, but I've always had an interesting taste in celebrities. Here is a smathering of past obsessions over the past few years. Oddly enough, many of them turned out to be gay or at least played gay on TV. Hmmph. Perhaps that should be a red flag of some sort? I think I just prefer the sensitive type who are more in touch with their inner creativity and artistic talents. Usually that tends to be not so good for me.

#1 Robert Smith
This was a given, wasn't it? I prefer young Rob to old fat Bob. But, it's not all about looks... the man can write some serious lyrics. He put me in touch with the sensitive side of guys.  Plus he's got great hair.

#2 Martin Gore
Mart is the man behind Depeche Mode. Yet another musician who can write incredible lyrics and his singing gives me chills. Still. To. This. Day.

#3 Eddie
 Izzard
The man is hilarious. Plus he has a kickin' British accent. I think I prefer the non-cross dressing version of Eddie, but a little eyeliner is required.

#4 James Spader
The opposite of Robert Smith, as I prefer older fatter James to young skinny 80s James. He was amazing on Boston Legal and has an intriguing personality.

#5 Gale Harold
Just an all around attractive man. Although the jury is still out on which way he goes, he played a gay character on Queer As Folk. No matter who he is with, he is still worth watching.

#6 Peter Krause
Peter seems like a really nice average guy.

#7 John Cameron Mitchell
John is the mastermind behind the musical/movie "Hedwig and the Angry Inch". Interesting soul. Gay (of course). Woe is me.

#8 Darren Hayes
Dude from Savage Garden. I had a crush on this guy in like the 8th grade. I even had a poster. Yep. Gay.  (No not me! Him.)

And, since practically every woman has one, my lesbian crush would have to be....
drum roll please....
Lauren Graham
Maybe I just want to be her.
